At cirqu’8, the guests found themselves in an unusual role due to the coronavirus. Not sitting in a theater chair, but on the move, in the open air, sometimes you could decide how long you wanted to stay or you were even completely alone.
For example, museum exhibitions, city tours and performances for just one person were planned, where hygiene and social distancing rules could be easily observed. There were also projects that took place outside, lasted several hours or days and allowed sufficient social distancing. The more classical performances were either also performed outdoors or offered space for a small audience indoors.
However, there were other reasons why the cirqu’8 edition of the festival was so special. For one thing, the Alte Reithalle was not reopened until next fall, 2021 - so the atmospherically wonderful hall was not available. On the other hand, the confounded virus, which disrupted so much, also had its good sides: It has opened the doors to new collaborations. cirqu' not only took place during the ten days in June, but also occupied the premises of the Aarau City Museum from May to July. Various other cultural players and institutions from Aarau were also involved in the festival in different ways: Forum Schlossplatz, Bühne Aarau, the municipal library, KuK and the Aargauer Kunsthaus.
