Ghost Writer and the Broken Hand Break

"Break the brake and roll the wheels (...) roll on", that's how the evenings song begins to unfold. As soon as the handbrake is released, an unstoppable endless spinning begins. The spinning goes on and on, for an entire 45 minutes without stopping. This reality check, this experiment in perception doesn’t pretend to have spiritual ambitions, but it opens our eyes anyway, to the moment and to movement. A woman and two men whirl around their axis, smoke cigarettes, and play hypnotic rock with driving beats. The vocals are cryptic and could be about worshiping the unimaginable. The longer you watch them, the deeper you fall under the spell of what they do. The sound and the controlled unrestrained movements generate a pull that lingers until long after the end of the performance.

The famous Belgian performance artist Miet Warlop, who along with her two comrades-in-arms, devotes herself to this experiment on stage is the in-house director at the NT Gent. The artistic director at NT Gent is Milo Rau.
