Around a simple wooden table, two grandmothers connect over tea. Grandmothers from opposite worlds — Iran and Germany — bound by their granddaughter, acrobat and juggler Roxana Küwen Arsalan. They talk about pomegranates and potatoes, tell stories, and awaken memories. we’re swept into their world. Wait a minute! The granddaughter is, in fact, alone on stage with teacups, the table, a teapot, and a beautiful tablecloth. The grandmothers are but an illusion brought to life by her imagination, and now, we can see them too.

In this piece, Roxana Küwen Arsalan explores the randomness of her origins and the privileges that come with them. Juggling in this act is anything but ordinary. It unfolds through teacups, balls, feet, playful words, cultural stereotypes, and plenty of humor. This artist previously appeared at cirqu’ in 2017 with the duo performance Play Nice.
