Water Music

“Water Music” is an excerpt from the pioneering work Water Concerto for Water Percussion and Orchestra – in Memory of Toru Takemitsu by Chinese composer and conductor Tan Dun. In this vibrant and ever-evolving piece, the percussionists improvise freely—each performance is unique, never to be repeated. This reflects Tan Dun’s early musical experiences with Taoist rituals, back when he was a wild, barefoot mountain boy in his grandmother’s village in China’s Hunan province.

“Water Music” is performed by the Black Forest Percussion Group, founded in 2010 and known for a repertoire that spans original works and arrangements from Baroque to contemporary music. Two of the musicians are members of the Argovia Philharmonic ensemble.
