What was that about the donkey and the carrot? The donkey has a tantalizing treat just beyond his reach and struggles to get it. This is exactly what happened to the artist Lucho Smit in his early years, when, full of enthusiasm and with the unwavering determination of youth, he performed all the heroic circus acts you can imagine. Higher, further, faster — happily chasing the carrot as we all tend to do, especially circus performers. Now at a more mature age, he still climbs the rope, onto the trapeze, onto the the penny-farthing and into the lion’s cage. He still turns into a cowboy, builds pyramids with chairs, juggles, and even jumps through rings of fire. A steadfast veteran, maintaining composure no matter what happens. Knowledge gained is never lost. But where did the imaginary carrot go?
«L'Âne & la Carotte» is an entertaining program that softly suggests that we consider the carrots in our own lives.
